I don’t believe that ALL cops are racist bigots or that most are. I don’t believe for one second most cops are bad guys. The job is an honorable one and I have nothing but respect for those who risk their lives.
Corruption is not a majority; corruption is a few. A few in power, a few dishonorable ruin it for everyone.
And we have to stop being so damn afraid of calling out the few for their corruption like it somehow invalidates the reverence and respect for the majority that don’t participate in said corruption. Because it really doesn’t. Supporting the victims of those few corrupt cops doesn’t invalidate good cops either.
This all or nothing mentality we have in society is quite frankly silly and also very dangerous. Admitting that racism is a thing doesn’t make suddenly make us or anyone we know racist. But a lot of people act like that, don’t they?
As if admitting something is wrong will suddenly upset the balance.
As if admitting there is a problem will somehow make that same exact problem that has never really gone anywhere insurmountable.
And ignoring it will keep us safe somehow.
Well, here is the thing about that. It really won’t. That huge glaring problem will be there whether any of us address it or not. And it doesn’t mean that those who are addressing it hate all cops or have some “race card” agenda.
