Changing Haiti's Image...Through Music

The depiction of Haïti in the media is often that of a nation of poverty, natural disasters, or political upheaval. There is not enough coverage given to the unique culture, rich history, and beauty of the island and its people.

In honor of Haitian Flag Day, it is important to not only wave our drapeau (flag) in pride, but to learn and promote our history that has been overlooked and our culture that has been misrepresented. One way to improve Haïti’s image is to showcase Haitian artistry.

Here are a few artists whose songs and videos are about changing Ayiti’s (Haiti’s) image in the international community while showing their love for their fellow Haitians and the island once known as “La Perle des Antilles” (The Pearl of the Antilles):
