As a writer, poetry has always been a passion. Expressing myself through poetry is an outlet for me and hearing other poets recite their work is an inspiration. National Poetry Month is in April and I’m celebrating a little early. Here are some amazing spoken word poems from social media. Feel free to share your thoughts about these poems and send others that you’ve seen:
Sunni Patterson (Untitled Poem)
Ernestine Johnson “The Average Black Girl”
Prentice Powell “Good Father”
Terisa Siagatonu & Rudy Francisco “Sons”
Imani Cezanne “Heels”

“Knock Knock” by Daniel Beaty:
“Sign Language” by Rives:
Wow. I enjoyed both of these. Both are powerful in their own way. The one by Daniel Beaty was so moving. The one by Rives was humorous and the last line was great.
Okay, so how does it feel like she’s talking about short girls when she talks about tall girls in heels 😉 Definitely will be showing that one in class!
It definitely feels universal. I’m glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
