Ending DACA Is All About Racism

This administration continues to expand on its policies of racism…yes…racism. What is the point of ending DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), a program that mostly affects immigrants of color?

Does it really make sense to rescind a program that has helped people to become examples of the American dream? These individuals, these Dreamers who were brought to the U.S as children have been contributing to our society and economy in many ways. And this is how our current administration decides to treat them?

Imagine being raised in a country for most of your life. Then all of a sudden you’re told that you will have to uproot your life to a country you don’t even remember because of a choice you didn’t make. America is supposed to be more exceptional that.

Does ending DACA help American citizens or improve America? Is threatening 800,000 innocent people with deportation and turning these individual’s lives upside down and placing them in limbo the blueprint for this administration’s immigration policy?

So far this administration has tried to ban an entire religion, has condoned white supremacists, has pardoned a racist sheriff convicted of defying a court order to stop violating people of color’s civil rights, and now has terminated DACA.

How can we be an anti-immigrant and anti-diversity nation when this country has prospered because of immigrants? Why are we demonizing people fleeing their homelands for a better life while we still praise those who sailed on the Mayflower to get here.

But somehow, we’re expected to believe that all of this is not about the “r” word.
