Ignorance is not just lack of understanding. It can be dangerous. It can can decimate and bring down entire groups of people. It can be used by the powerful and wicked to oppress those who are unfortunately placed at the bottom of the social ladder because they don’t know any other way out.
The system teaches us that a good education is key. This is half true. We cannot combat ignorance with “rigor” or more complex hands on activities or even better textbooks. The willingness to learn, the intrinsic seeking of knowledge, open-mindedness, and the understanding of just the world in general, this starts at home.
When we learn to actually value knowledge and cultivate understanding, maybe take our own ego down a peg and see what others are doing…
When we actually take the time to actually learn…
That’s when we can see how big the world is; our place in it gets a little clearer and we can finally move forward instead of ten steps backwards.
I hope the advancements made in this generation, which are many, are a sign we are finally moving in the right direction.
