Attending the Women’s March on January 21st in Washington, DC was a great experience. We saw women, men, and even children of all backgrounds from the DC area and other cities around the country.
The protest was mostly an “Anti-Trump” response; however, there were also different social causes represented and everyone was unified. Marching and at times chanting with my fellow Americans showed me that our country can accomplish anything if people can come together. We have the ability to find common ground and create intersectionality within the social causes we are fighting for.
In DC, other cities in the country, and even around the world, crowds of protesters peacefully took over the streets on the same day to advocate for women’s rights and other causes that impact women and their families. As a woman and also as an American, knowing this gave me so much pride in our country and world.
This march was only a first step; people especially women need to mobilize and stand up for change and equality. It’s not enough to stand on the sidelines and hope for things to improve. We can’t wait for someone else to do it.
Everyday people HAVE political power only if we use it.
