This video of California Senator Barbara Boxer’s address on immigration, Homeland Security, and Washington gridlock needs to go viral. As a daughter of immigrant parents and a voter frustrated by elected officials refusing to do their jobs, I think she deserves applause from the American public for this speech.
Her words were spot on about immigration and the current dysfunction in our government. Our elected officials need to do what we elected them to do: work together to pass laws that will improve the lives of every citizen and resident. Government officials can debate policy without hindering our country. It’s time our lawmakers stop the childish bickering and earn their paychecks.
This latest crisis of hesitating to pass a bill that will fund Homeland Security is a prime example of the ridiculousness in Washington that refuses to end. I wish more lawmakers would speak out against those who are impeding the progress in our government and voters need to stop electing officials who seek to create conflict and offer no solutions. Our country deserves a fully functional legislative branch that will dedicate itself to this country’s modern progression and will work in unison with our other branches of government to make it happen.
