The Impact of a Queen

As an American, it was both emotional and educational to follow the coverage honoring the life of Queen Elizabeth II. For most of my life, I’ve heard about The Queen even though she wasn’t an American public figure.

Watching crowds of British citizens mourning and celebrating her life along with her many loved ones…
Seeing the display of British history, culture, and unity…
Hearing about The Queen’s humor, humility, work ethic, interests, and how she was as a person…
All of this was moving beyond words.

Queen Elizabeth II was a world leader and public servant of great magnitude and was also an example for women starting from a young age. She led the UK for a historic 70 years with poise, was influential to other world leaders and people around the world, and even served in the military during World War II. Most of all, she maintained her dedication to her family throughout her years of public service.

Whatever you think of the British monarchy or the UK’s past history with colonialism, Elizabeth II was an embodiment of an era in history that we haven’t seen before and probably might not see again in our lifetimes.

She has left an exceptional legacy for her family, nation, and also for future generations of women leaders. She will always be “The Queen” that the world knows, remembers, and references.
